Terms and Conditions
Registration

In order to be enroled at Firebird Academy of Ballet (FAB), a registration form must be completed by the student or student’s parent/guardian.

The FAB Principle determines the appropriate class level for the student in consultation with the teacher who provides assessment of the student’s dance experience during the trial class.

Fees

Firebird Academy of Ballet offers everyone a complimentary class before joining. The remaining pro-rated fees will be billed for the rest of the term.

Students or students’ parents/guardians are invoiced by email in advance of the start of term. All fees are expected within the first two weeks after invoicing. Four weeks after the date of invoicing, a %5 late fee will be added to the invoice if not paid.

Fees can be paid by Cash, BACS, or by a Cheque (made payable to Firebird Academy of Ballet). Please note that we do not charge any “joining” or “booking” fees.

Notice of automatic reenrolment

Notice must be given if the student is not enroling in the following term. Failure to notify the school can cause financial hardship for the business. Students are automatically re-enroled for the next term unless six weeks of notice to withdraw from Firebird Academy of Ballet is provided in writing from the student or student’s parent/guardian. Half of a term’s fees will be assessed if this notice is not given in time.

Dance Examinations

Dance classes at FAB include the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) for the level. Students have the option of participating in the examination process with the RAD.

Firebird Academy of Ballet reserves the right to determine if the student is of the required standard to be entered for a registered examination.

As the student is representing the Academy, the correct exam uniform must be worn for all examinations.

Parents/Guardians will be responsible for additional fees required for exam entry (which is non-refundable) and the fees associated with extra coaching classes to prepare the student.

Dance Festivals and Competitions

From time to time, FAB may encourage pupils to enter local dance festivals or competitions. These entrants will generally require a specially choreographed and/or set dance which they will need to learn during rehearsals outside of normal class times.

Parents/Guardians will be responsible for additional fees for the festival or competition entry (which is non-refundable) and extra coaching/rehearsal classes. Costumes must be worn for all festival or competition entries, which may incur additional costs.

Firebird Academy of Ballet reserves the right to determine if the student is of the required standard to enter a festival or competition. Participation is optional and is discussed individually with the student and parent/guardian.

Academy Performances

All FAB students are invited and encouraged to take part in school showcase performances. Permission to appear in shows is required from the student or student’s parent/guardian. All students will be expected to attend additional rehearsals outside of their registered dance classes. These rehearsals will incur a fee. If the student fails to attend more than two designated rehearsals, FAB reserves the right to withdraw the student from participation in the show unless these rehearsals are made up for in private coaching sessions. Any fees paid will be non-refundable if the student must be withdrawn by FAB.

Term Dates and Viewing Week

The Autumn, Spring and Summer term dates follow those of the local Croydon school district. Parents are not permitted to observe classes on an ad-hoc basis, though parents/guardians are invited by the Principal to watch their child’s class one week each term in a scheduled observation class.

Uniform & Hair

Once a student is happily placed in the class(es) determined by FAB to be appropriate for them, the correct uniform is required within half a term of class attendance. Please refer to our Uniform Page for details of what needs to be worn.

Students must be in their correct uniform in all classes, for performance rehearsals and whenever representing FAB.

Our pupils take pride in their presentation and this is encouraged from an early age. Looking smart enhances the way the children feel when they dance.  Well-groomed hair also helps the teacher observe a clear line of the head, neck and upper back, allowing the teacher to correct the student’s poise. No jewellery is to be worn at any time while the student is in class, rehearsal, examination or on stage unless it is part of the costume. If the student’s ears have just been pierced, small studs may be worn during class and rehearsal.
